BREAKING: Nigerian Government Raises Passport Fee From N26,000 to N100,000

Nigerian Government Raises Passport Fee From N26,000 to N100,000.

The Federal Government has announced a sharp increase in the cost of obtaining Nigerian passports, raising fresh concerns among citizens already grappling with economic hardship.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed that the new rates will take effect from September 1, 2025.

Under the revised structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will now cost N100,000, up from N26,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will rise to N200,000.

This latest adjustment marks the second consecutive year that passport fees have been reviewed upwards. In 2024, the cost of the 32-page passport was raised from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page version went from N70,000 to N100,000.

According to NIS, the newly approved fees will apply only within Nigeria, as rates for passport issuance in the Diaspora remain unchanged.

The development has already sparked reactions among Nigerians, many of whom say the sharp increase will place additional financial strain on families.
