As Muslim faithful in Nigeria join their counterparts around the world to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), state governors have urged citizens to reflect on the Prophet’s life and teachings by embracing sacrifice, love, tolerance, and compassion.
In separate goodwill messages to commemorate the occasion, the governors described Eid-ul-Mawlid as a moment for sober reflection and a call to live by values that promote peace, harmony, and mutual respect among all Nigerians.
They noted that Prophet Muhammad exemplified humility, selflessness, and justice, virtues that remain relevant in addressing the challenges confronting the nation.
A northern governor in his message said: “This is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to remind ourselves of the essence of unity and brotherhood. The Prophet’s life is a model of compassion and service, which we must strive to emulate in our homes, communities, and governance.
”Another governor from the South-West enjoined citizens to strengthen the bonds of love and tolerance, stressing that Nigeria can only overcome its current socio-economic difficulties if the people unite with sincerity and patriotism.
They further called on Muslims to extend charity to the needy, promote peaceful coexistence with adherents of other faiths, and remain steadfast in prayers for the nation’s peace, progress, and stability.
The leaders also expressed hope that the lessons of Eid-ul-Mawlid would inspire Nigerians to build a society rooted in justice, fairness, and equity.
Eid-ul-Mawlid, celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, is marked by prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of benevolence across communities in Nigeria and beyond.
