The Action Democratic Party (ADP), Lagos State Chapter, calls on all Nigerians – workers, traders, students, professionals, artisans, and the unemployed – to wake up to the reality that politics is not an enemy of the people but the foundation of their welfare, dignity, and prosperity.
In a strongly worded statement signed by the Lagos State leadership of the party, the ADP declared that the time has come to reclaim the true meaning and purpose of politics – the improvement of the people’s welfare. Politics, the party said, is not about personal enrichment or oppression but about service, development, and justice.
POLITICS IS ABOUT THE PEOPLE’S WELFARE IMPROVEMENTS:
According to the ADP Lagos, politics determines the living conditions of every Nigerian – from the price of food and fuel to the quality of education, healthcare, jobs, and housing. Therefore, to ignore politics or treat it with disdain is to surrender one’s destiny to the wrong hands.
“Politics is the instrument by which societies rise or fall. It can be a tool of liberation or of enslavement. When politics is good, people prosper. When it is bad, citizens suffer. That is why we say: do not trash politics to the dogs,” the statement emphasized.
POLITICS CAN BE GOOD OR BAD:
The ADP noted that politics itself is not evil but neutral; its moral quality depends on the character of those who play it.
Good politics is people-centered, transparent, accountable, and compassionate. It builds schools, hospitals, industries, and infrastructure.
Bad politics is self-centered, corrupt, oppressive, and deceitful. It impoverishes the people while enriching a few.
The statement further warned that those who stay away from politics are indirectly empowering the corrupt and oppressive few who dominate the system for selfish gain.
POLITICAL POWER BEGETS ALL OTHER POWERS:
“Every form of power on earth flows from political power,” ADP Lagos stressed. “Economic power, social power, and institutional authority all derive from decisions made by those in government. That is why it is dangerous for good citizens to be indifferent about politics.”
The party urged Nigerians to realize that “whether you do politics or not, politics is already doing you.” It determines the policies that govern your income, security, education, and healthcare.
AFTER GOD IS EARTHLY GOVERNMENT:
The ADP reaffirmed that after God, the next most powerful institution on earth is government. Citing biblical wisdom, the statement noted that “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
“When government policies are righteous, citizens prosper. When leaders are autocratic and corrupt, the nation bleeds. That is why we must stand up against autocracy and support democracy – the system that guarantees freedom, accountability, and the welfare of the people,” the statement continued.
AUTOCRATS ARE THE EVIL OPPRESSORS – DEMOCRATS ARE YOUR WELFARISTS:
The ADP Lagos described autocrats as “evil oppressors who thrive on the poverty and silence of the people.” According to the party, autocratic leaders do not serve; they rule. They enslave citizens with hardship, manipulate institutions, and treat the people’s mandate as their personal property.
In contrast, Democrats are the welfarists – leaders who govern with compassion, build systems that empower the people, and see governance as service, not domination.
“True democracy uplifts the people. It listens to their cries and meets their needs. It ensures that the wealth of the nation benefits all, not a select few,” the ADP declared.
STAND WITH THE DEMOCRATS TO PROTECT YOUR WELFARE:
The party therefore called on all Lagosians and Nigerians at large to take a decisive stand with the Democrats – the leaders and parties that place the people’s welfare above personal ambition.
“Stand with those who believe governance should serve, not enslave. Stand with those who seek to empower, not exploit. Stand with those who will ensure that every Nigerian child has access to education, healthcare, and opportunity. Stand with those who fear God and respect the people,” the statement urged.
RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION:
The ADP Lagos concluded that Nigeria’s path to greatness lies in righteous governance – leadership that fears God, respects human dignity, and promotes fairness and justice.
“Righteousness is not just a moral value; it is an economic and social principle. A righteous government creates peace, development, and prosperity. That is the leadership ADP stands for – leadership that uplifts the people, not one that oppresses them.”
THE FINAL WORD:
“Politics is about your welfare. Do not let the oppressors deceive you into thinking it doesn’t matter. Every decision that shapes your life comes from government, and every government comes from politics. Therefore, reclaim it. Protect it. Purify it. Use it to build the Nigeria of your dreams.”
The ADP Lagos calls on every Nigerian to rise and join hands in this people-centered democratic revolution. Together, we can reclaim politics from the autocrats and restore it to its divine purpose – the welfare, freedom, and prosperity of all citizens.
